10 MAIN TRENDS FOR HOME DÉCOR IN 2021

No need to analyze 2020 in depth to arrive to the conclusion that it was an unprecedented year, challenging and trying for most of us, but simultaneously time full of special moments and self-reflection. The expression “rising to the occasion” has never been as true as in these past 10 months!

This past year, people went back to their roots and core values and really asked themselves the hard questions about what is truly important to them and what fundamentally brings them joy. Most of us spent more time in our home with family or our close circle of friends, and had plenty of time to rethink our immediate physical environment. It led to a surge in interest in interior décor, sparking curiosity in many homeowners about how they could improve their space to make them more comfortable and optimize it with taste.

One of the more notable results of this home-bound year is a return to simplicity, causing people to keep only special pieces of décor in the house and rethinking the forgotten ones collecting dust and spider webs in the corner.

Naturally, coziness, practicality and comfort became the main goals in 2020 because the time spent in people’s homes made them value these things more profoundly. The comfort and feeling in one’s house has never been so important.

SO… WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR 2021 TRENDS?

Well, the need for coziness and practicality is going to continue, bringing in home décor lots of warm fibers, cozy & fuzzy textiles, round and reassuring lines in furniture, plush and comfortable chairs and sofas with soft relaxing colors. The house becomes a place where we can hide comfortably against the incertitude of outside, a customized cocoon we love and feel secure in.

These 10 main trends for 2021 below will help creating this refuge house for all of us:

  • Luxury yarns, curly wool yarn, cozy textiles

You can’t overdo soft wool blankets with curly yarns, plush throws to keep you warm as you read, cashmere, alpaca or mohair wool in home accessories and furniture cloths. You will find natural and casual curly wool as upholstery material on chairs or sofas.

  • Velvet sofas, chairs and couches in reassuring design lines

Generous curved shapes and rounded sofas are going to be key elements in 2021 with comfortable materials like velvet or soft textiles. We remain chic but accentuate the cozy factor. The shapes in furniture are round like a pebble on the beach.

  • Soft neutral colors

Colors are going to be relaxing and reassuring. Cream, caramel and neutral soft colors like light yellow straw will be the main accents in home décor with a slight feminine tendency. We will also see some cold minerals colors like light greens, greys and blues. You can play with the contrast of colors in 2021, using the cold mineral colors to bring freshness and some touches of warm earthy boho colors to remind the importance of passion in life.

  • Imperfect shapes in ceramics, sculptures, vases.

The handmade and homemade look is at the front row and selected home objects do not need to be perfect. We appreciate everything that has an artistic touch and imperfections are valued and understood.

  • Light color wood

When it comes to wooden furniture, we prefer light color wood to bring brightness into the room and simplicity of the material. We are looking more to a rural life-style. A natural approach to home décor.

  • Sustainable solutions in the house choices

The question of sustainability is reinforced in 2021 and when we can have the choice between materials and installations that will be durable in time and gentle to our fabulous planet, we will choose the sustainable solution. Beside the aesthetic aspect of our décor, we become more and more responsible and ethical about our consumption choices.

  • Back to local purchases and DIY projects

In 2021, people are aware of the importance of buying local to support our community and minimize the carbon footprint due to long shipping trips. Buying local goes above our food selection and farmer’s markets. It will be also introduced in our choices of home décor, in research of higher quality and durability. The artisanal design of home accessories is trending and the value of handmade is more and more recognized. We are also going to pursue the DIY projects we have started in 2020 and taking classes on-line or elsewhere to specializes in various home décor projects.

  • Sculptures with shapes of Totem

Our lives tend to go towards more spirituality and the home décor is not escaping this trend! The sculpture becomes very spiritual as well as more mainstream with Totem shapes and divinity accents. Each object has their own personality and meaning. The rituals find their place in the homes in 2021.
